the K2C story

It all started while on holiday...

While on holiday in South Korea on our way to Japan, I stumbled upon something that changed everything—authentic Korean skincare. As a qualified skincare therapist trained at Isa Carstens Academy, and having worked in the industry since 2004, I was completely taken aback by what I discovered. At this point, I had heard of K-Beauty, but I was NOT in the slightest prepared for the amazing journey I was about to embark on. Trends on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, etc., are one thing, but experiencing it for yourself, in the country of origin, knowing that I am not dependent on someone else's social media posts and convincing stories for me,, was EVERYTHING. I am now 42 years old and a mother of five beautiful kids. They have kept me busy for the past few years. Stress, hormones, and life in general have taken their toll, and after 40, my skin was not what it used to be. Honestly, I started feeling less of a woman (less confident, less attractive… a little less of everything). Lines and pigmentation started showing up from nowhere, and looking in the mirror became a different experience for me. Some might view this as shallow or ungrateful, but it was what I felt—my brutal, honest truth. I’ve tried countless products, brands, and treatments over the years. But nothing prepared me for the pure magic I experienced with the original Korean face masks, cleansers, and serums I picked up during our trip. Within just days—five days—my skin felt different (softer, brighter, and more refined; refined was what I was looking for mostly). Even here, I was making a big mistake. The Koreans go about skincare in a completely different way than the Western world does. We think exfoliation, peels, acids, and laser treatments are what makes the big difference when it comes to improving our skin after 30, but this is not what they focus on at all. And it makes SO much sense now that I look back on what I have studied as a student. The very first thing I was taught in my dermatology subjects as a student was that we all have a natural protective skin barrier. We call this the lipid barrier (which includes sebum and other components). (Basically, the oily layer you feel on your skin when you wake up in the morning.) That is actually a wonderful thing and your own body's way of making sure that moisture does not get lost from your skin cells. We can call this our very own, natural moisturizer. See this layer as a lid placed on the surface of your skin to prevent moisture loss (water evaporating from your skin). How amazing are our skins! The Koreans saw this and made it their main focus—to protect the skin's natural barrier at all costs, while boosting the skin with extra, refined (this is very important) minerals and vitamins. (This is where your so-called essence/serums come into the picture.) These actually are small enough to penetrate the skin—even via the protective barrier (where most active ingredients get blocked after you paid a good fortune for it)—and help the skin with its nourishing and shedding cycle. This is where we, in a way, "bullsh*t" the skin: bypass the barrier/lipid layer and boost it with extra active molecules. That is, IF the molecules are small enough to penetrate. Most so-called "collagen masks" cannot do this because collagen is not ultra-refined, cannot penetrate the protective barrier of the skin, and will end up sitting on the surface, giving you a "soft and comfy" feeling in the morning, but your skin did not get any "collagen richer" AT ALL. I am honestly tired of being lied to by the beauty industry, all in the name of money. Never did I think I would get back into this industry, because I could see how women were and still are being taken for a proper ride. My mission with this business is not only to bring you proper skincare, but to also show you that paying thousands of rands for skin products does NOT mean it works. I want the best at 42. I am done with "names" and "things" that have been around forever, but know for a fact that I have found something better at a fraction of the price of those seemingly high-end products. Ladies, we have been lied to for a very long time. I will never stop researching and making sure that what I bring to the table will always be my best, and I want to only use the best on my skin. Why not share it with you? I had never seen visible results like that, and certainly not so fast. Curious and deeply impressed, while still on holiday, I Started deep diving into Korean skin care products in every way possible. When we came back to South Africa I gave samples—that were given to me when I bought them—to a few close friends. Their response? Unanimous awe. Everyone asked where they could get it. THAT'S when the search began—only to discover that the exact products we had fallen in love with were almost impossible to find online in SA. Worse, many so-called “Korean skincare” products available were poor-quality, low-grade replicas, diluted formulas, or lookalikes pretending to be the real thing. Determined to bring the real deal home, we reached out directly to trusted Korean manufacturers—the very sources behind the skincare we had used ourselves. I was determined to get what I bought in South Korea. After months of ingredient cross-checking, labeling verification, and honest conversations with our (now trusted) partners in South Korea, we built relationships that now allow us to bring original, clinically backed, high-performance Korean skincare to South Africa. Our mission is simple: to share the same authentic, skin-transforming Korean products that changed our skins—with you. No replicas. No guesswork. Just genuine K-Beauty formulas that work—exactly the way they were designed to. At least now (end of 2025), I not only know exactly what K-Beauty really stands for, but I see and feel it every day—getting your skin back to a place you did not think was possible. We know that these products will make you come back for more. We are starting with the focus on anti-aging, hand picked and researched in depth, and as our business expands, we will cover as many skin conditions as possible: Acne Rosacea Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis) Psoriasis Dermatitis Hyper sensitive When my husband and I decided to bring it in, my very first words to him were: "Then let us bring in only the best, regardless of price—high or low—because I know as a woman myself, I would rather pay more for the real thing than less for some unauthorized version." The exact same applies when a product contains proper ingredients and comes at a much lower price. As long as IT WORKS and gives me the results I want. That—and only that—is what I want to share with people. Real seems to be quite scarce these days. I had to travel across oceans to find them myself, while I just wanted a break from kids and life and and and... lol. Wow. A real little gem, I call them. Here’s to feeling great in your skin again! May you love this as much as we do. Sincerely, Mieke x

Why We Do Things Differently

At Korea2CapeTown, we do not believe in treating skin according to old-fashioned skin types alone.

Why?

Because skin type is not the full story.

You may think you have “oily skin,” “dry skin,” or “combination skin,” but that does not explain what your skin is actually going through right now.

Skin is dynamic. It changes with age, stress, hormones, climate, barrier damage, inflammation, dehydration, breakouts, and sun exposure.

That is why we focus on skin states instead.

A skin state gives a far more accurate picture of what your skin needs in the present moment.

For example, oily skin can still be dehydrated. Dry skin can also be inflamed. Acne-prone skin may actually have a damaged barrier underneath it. Pigmentation often does not exist on its own — it is usually linked to inflammation, sensitivity, hormonal changes, and UV exposure.

So instead of placing people into broad, outdated categories, we built our approach around what the skin is actually experiencing right now.

scientifically integrated skin kits

Our skin kits were not put together randomly, and they were not built around trends.

Each kit has been scientifically placed into a working system designed for a specific skin state.

This means the products inside each kit are selected and positioned in a way that allows them to work with the skin, not against it.

Every cleanser, toner, essence, serum, cream, mask, and SPF has been chosen for its role inside a bigger system — a system that supports the skin barrier, improves absorption, reduces unnecessary irritation, and helps guide the skin back toward balance.

In simple terms:
we do not just sell products — we build structured skincare systems.

Each kit is designed to answer a specific skin need, whether that is:

  • calming a damaged or reactive barrier,

  • helping acne-prone skin reset,

  • correcting visible pigmentation,

  • maintaining balanced, healthy skin,

  • or supporting more advanced skin optimisation.

The products are arranged in the correct order of use, with each step supporting the next. This matters, because skincare is not just about what you use — it is also about how the products work together, how they are layered, and whether the skin is actually in the right condition to receive those active ingredients.

That is where so many people go wrong.

They buy excellent products, but use them in the wrong order, mix too many actives, or treat the wrong problem first.

We wanted to change that.

a working system for every skin state

Our kits help take the guesswork out of skincare by giving customers a working routine, not just a shelf full of pretty products.

Each kit has been designed to function as a complete system for a particular skin state, with a clear purpose behind every step:

  • cleanse without stripping

  • support and protect the barrier

  • deliver refined active ingredients where needed

  • reduce inflammation

  • maintain hydration

  • protect the skin daily with SPF

  • and most importantly, help the skin function better over time

This is why we integrated the kits in a way that makes sense scientifically.

The skin has to be prepared before it can be corrected.
It has to be calmed before it can be pushed.
It has to be supported before it can truly improve.

That is why barrier health sits at the center of everything we do.

why we do not focus on skin types

The beauty industry has spent years teaching people to shop according to labels like dry, oily, and combination. But those labels are too simplistic and often lead people down the wrong path.

A person with oily skin may assume they need harsh stripping products, when in reality their skin may be producing excess oil because it is dehydrated and trying to protect itself.

A person with pigmentation may focus only on brightening products, while ignoring the inflammation and sun damage that are keeping that pigmentation active.

A person with acne may overload their skin with acids and treatments, when what they actually need first is barrier repair and calming.

This is exactly why we do not build our systems around skin types.

We build them around what the skin is asking for now.

That is more accurate.
That is more intelligent.

And most importantly — that is what gets better results.

Our Philosophy

At Korea2CapeTown, we believe skincare should be:

intentional, structured, science-led, and honest.

Not overwhelming.
Not trend-driven.
Not based on hype.

Our goal is to help people understand their skin better, choose the right system for their current skin state, and follow a routine that is designed to actually work in real life.

Because the truth is:

when skincare is scientifically integrated into a system that suits the skin’s actual condition, everything changes.
